Fighting For You After An Accident

3 times that truck drivers are the victims of truck accidents

Truck drivers often bear the brunt of public blame when accidents happen on the road. Due to their large vehicles and the potential severity of crashes, it’s easy to assume they are at fault. However, in some cases, truck drivers are actually the victims.

There are instances when truck drivers also deal with dangerous decisions made by other road users. Recognizing when truckers are not at fault is essential to help ensure fair investigations and promote safer driving habits among all motorists.

1. When cars cut off trucks abruptly

One of the most common causes of accidents involving trucks is when passenger vehicle drivers cut them off in traffic. Trucks require a much longer distance to slow down or stop due to their size and weight. When a car suddenly merges into a truck’s lane without adequate space, the truck driver often has no safe option to avoid a collision. These scenarios are particularly dangerous at high speeds or during poor weather conditions.

2. When vehicles linger in blind spots

Trucks have large blind spots, commonly referred to as “no-zones,” along the sides, rear, and even in front of the cab. When other drivers linger in these zones, the truck driver may not see them when changing lanes or making wide turns. Despite clear warnings posted on many commercial trucks, some motorists ignore these blind spots, increasing the risk of collisions.

3. When drivers fail to yield to turning trucks

Trucks need extra space to maneuver, sometimes swinging left before turning right to avoid obstacles. Unfortunately, impatient drivers often try to speed past a turning truck or sneak between the truck and the curb, putting themselves in a dangerous position. When a crash occurs, it’s typically because the other vehicle failed to yield or misunderstood the truck’s movement.

Educating all drivers about how to share the road responsibly with trucks can significantly reduce accidents and protect everyone. That said, truck drivers have the right to pursue legal action against road users whose negligence results in catastrophic truck accidents.
